The bridge over Como Bayou on the road in to Como Retreat
What to Expect

Three days, one journey

Once you've made the slow country drive down the 4.5-mile gravel road, where you will have left your troubles and worries behind, you will be primed for an exceptional experience.

A time to quiet the “white noise” of modern life, enjoy God's brushstrokes, and focus on the gift of sacred tranquility.

Upon arrival at Como, you will have time to settle into your private room and unwind. Take a moment to explore. Chances are you'll feel drawn to the banks of the Mississippi River, just a brief walk away from your room. Later, you'll meet fellow retreatants at the welcome gathering and dinner.

For the next two days you will rest in the silent flow of a monastic atmosphere. There will be times for listening and learning, then refreshment and rest. Each day you will walk through short, thought-provoking teachings, with plenty of time to process through contemplation, prayer, and journaling. Nature walks offer opportunities for contemplation while soaking up the natural surroundings.

Sample Itinerary

How a retreat unfolds

First Day — Arrival

Gather at the landing

You'll be guided to a rustic cabin or a beautifully appointed room in the home. Once settled, a gathering in the Parlor is held for introductions and a property tour. Then a fish fry — a southern tradition — overlooking the sunset on the Mississippi, followed by a time of music and worship in the chapel. You will receive an introduction to the lecture series, and silence begins. Retire at will.

Second Day

Let Him speak to you

Wake up to freshly brewed coffee in the kitchen and a morning prayer devotional. The day is punctuated with instruction and ample time for relaxation, meditation, journaling, and hiking.

Third Day

Break the silence

Much like the day before — except that mid-afternoon we break silence together and discuss what you garnered during your time at the retreat, before returning home.

Where You'll Stay

A private room, a quiet porch

Guests stay either in a beautifully appointed room in the 1890 home or in your own rustic private cabin under the trees. Meals are shared together; the Parlor is where the first gathering happens, before silence begins.

A guest bedroom in the home with a carved four-poster bed

Rooms in the home

Private rooms in the restored 1890 home, with tall windows looking out over the grounds toward the river.

A private rustic guest cabin under the trees

Rustic private cabins under the trees

Your own cabin, set back among the trees — plain, warm, and yours alone for the hours between sessions.

Inside the Library at Como

The Library

An active lending library — shelves of devotional books and quiet corners to read in, open to you throughout the retreat. Take one, leave one. If you have Christian books you no longer need, the Library gladly accepts them.

The Parlor

Where you'll gather on arrival for introductions and the property tour, before the retreat settles into quiet.

Rocking chairs lining a porch

Porches and rockers

Most of a retreat happens here — a chair, a view, and nowhere in particular to be.

The chapel interior — wooden pews beneath an open timber roof

The chapel

A short walk from the home, open all day and all night for whoever needs it.

The blacksmith shop on the riverbank at sunset

The blacksmith shop on the river

Open to the water on the banks of the Mississippi — where the fish fry happens, and the best seat for a sunset.

The Teaching

The 10 Stepping Stones to a Closer Relationship with Christ

Como's foundational curriculum — The 10 Stepping Stones to a Closer Relationship with Christ — was created exclusively for Como by Pastor Daniel Dyer. Ten Biblically based stepping stones lead you into a deeper, more intimate encounter with your Creator.

An open Bible in morning light

Listening and learning

Short, thought-provoking teachings through the day, each followed by time to reflect on what you've just heard.

A journal, coffee and books on a desk

Contemplation and journaling

Unhurried space to process, pray, and write — the part of a retreat most people say they needed most.

The path from the home to the river

Nature walks

Trails through the Tunica Hills and the riverbank — birdsong, crunching leaves, and the hum of barges.

A Second Curriculum

Set Apart: Daily Living in a Fallen World

Como's newest teaching series, written by Pastor Daniel Dyer, takes up the question that follows every encounter with God: how do you live it out once you're home? Over three days of silence, Set Apart walks through what it means to belong to Christ while living, working, and raising a family in a world that pulls the other way.

Each retreat page names which curriculum it follows.

Ministry Partner Retreats

Alongside our own retreats, Como opens its home, cabins, chapel, and grounds to churches, Bible study groups, and Christian institutions who want to hold their own retreat or conference here. We call these groups our Ministry Partners. Groups are vetted, and must be Christian and Biblically based.

Get in touch to talk about dates and cost, and let your church know that Como is available. Como is not a wedding venue.
