Como is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Christian ministry, located in a restored paddlewheeler town on the banks of the Mississippi River — a special place with an 1890 home, guest cabins, a chapel, and miles of trails.
Caring for a place like Como takes many hands, and we are grateful for the people who generously give their time and talents to help keep it beautiful, welcoming, and ready for those who come here to rest and draw closer to Christ.
Many of our volunteers first came to Como as retreatants and later found a way to give their time and talents back.
We believe God has given each of us gifts to share, and there is room for those gifts at Como. Whether you are a skilled tradesperson, an artist, a gardener, a handyman, a cook, or simply someone who is willing to lend a helping hand, your God-given gifts are welcome and deeply appreciated.
You don't need a particular skill or a long-term commitment. Tell us what you enjoy, what you have to offer, and how much time you have. We'll be in touch about upcoming work days and opportunities.

Where volunteers are needed
Hosting
Welcoming retreatants on arrival, helping guests settle into rooms and cabins, preparing meals, and praying with and for guests before they arrive and during their retreat. You must have attended a retreat before volunteering as a host.
Gardening & grounds
Planting, weeding, mowing, and upkeep of the grounds and the wooded trails.
Trades
Carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC — skilled hands are always needed on a property of this age.
Teaching
If you are gifted as a public speaker, there are a few opportunities to present our curriculum. This requires approval from Pastor Daniel Dyer and training after having attended a retreat; you would also attend a follow-up retreat to shadow another teacher. It is a position that can be very rewarding.
Something else
Photography, music, art, admin, cooking, hospitality, prayer support. If you have something to offer, tell us about it.
