Where is Como Retreat?
Como Retreat is located just north of St. Francisville, Louisiana, on the banks of the Mississippi River. The drive in takes you along wooded country roads. We send full directions when you register. We are a silent retreat center in Louisiana, and are not affiliated with any hotel or resort in Lake Como, Italy.
How long is a retreat?
Three days. Arrival is at 4:00 p.m. on the first day — you settle in and meet the other retreatants over dinner. Silence begins that evening and holds through the next two days, until we break it together on the final afternoon. Departure is mid-afternoon on the last day. Each retreat's exact dates are listed on its own page.
Who leads the retreat?
Pastor Daniel Dyer serves as Como's Spiritual Director and wrote the curriculum exclusively for Como. Retreats are taught by Pastor Daniel or one of our other highly qualified, trained speakers.
What denomination is Como?
Como is nondenominational. We are a Christian, Biblically based ministry and are not associated with any specific denomination — everyone is welcome here.
Why is this a silent retreat?
In Pastor Daniel Dyer's words: "During a silent retreat, we silence human voices to listen for divine messages. Silence goes beyond simply not speaking; it involves calming a multitude of voices so we can hear the One speaking from heaven. In this setting, the teachings serve as tools to shape what we then bring to God in prayer."
Are meals included?
Yes. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided, with coffee and snacks in between. The retreat opens with a fish fry — a southern tradition — overlooking the sunset on the Mississippi. After that, mornings begin with freshly brewed coffee in the kitchen, and meals punctuate a day otherwise given to rest, teaching, and reflection.
Where will I stay?
In a private suite in the 1890 home, or in your own private rustic guest cabin on the property.
What does a retreat cost?
The cost of your three-day stay, with all meals included, is $450. A 50% deposit ($225) is due at registration, and the remaining balance is due 10 days before your retreat begins. The deposit is nonrefundable, but transferable to another date. The October 2026 Pastors Retreat is offered to pastors free of charge.
What if I can't afford the cost?
Scholarships are provided for those in need who make an application. Every application is reviewed with care and confidentiality. No one is turned away from a retreat because of cost. See our scholarship page to apply.
Do you host other events on the property?
Yes. Churches, Bible study groups, and Christian institutions are welcome to host their own retreats and conferences at Como. Is there a couples' version of the retreat?
Not at the moment. Our couples retreats were led by a host couple who have since retired from it, and we are looking for a couple to carry them on. Until then, our men's and women's retreats welcome you separately, and you are always free to attend the same weekend's retreat as a group. If you feel called to host a couples retreat, we would love to hear from you.
